The basic reach truck utilizes an out rigging mechanism mounted to the front of the vehicle. A set of telescoping forks that move up and down are mounted to the out rigging. A hydraulic setup which permits the operator to grab and reposition the load over the outriggers is also included in the forks. This design gives a more even balance of the load and allows for quicker maneuvering between the storage shelves and narrow aisles.
When loading pallets on the their specified shelves, the hydraulics can be used to slide and swing the pallet into place. This mechanism is little enough to fit into an aisle less than 10 feet across without too many difficulties so long as there is nothing protruding from any shelves.
